On June 8th, 1998, I just felt very uncomfortable, I couldn’t sit or stand, then perspiration started to bead on my forehead. It was ten to four in the afternoon; I remember because I looked at the clock, I don’t know how I wound up on the floor but when my wife came home at twenty to five, that’s where I was.
She woke me and asked me how I was feeling. I said alright at first, then I said I think I had a heart attack.
I had just buried my 44 yr old brother the past July 1997 from a heart attack, as well as my mother in January 1998 and my 53 yr old brother in February 1998, all from heart related ailments, I said to my wife, I think we should go to the hospital as we lived 5 minutes away. (My older brother had his wife drive him to the hospital, she dropped him at the emergency door and he passed away while she was parking the car, if he had of called an ambulance, maybe he would still be with us. ) These are the thoughts going through my mind as we are on the road to the hospital. Then the chest pain started, half a block to go. That’s when i started to pray I’d make it to the hospital.
I had my wife drop me at the door and go park the car (heard this before).
I walked into the hospital, the lady at the desk said to sit down, I said I don’t have time, I am having a heart attack, here is my information, my wife is parking the car, she will be right in. Then I turned and walked through the double doors into the emergency room. I walked right into a lady doctor and I said I am having a heart attack, she directed me to a bed and started asking questions and then injecting me with something and hooking me up to a heart monitor. It was five minutes to five, I looked as I walked in. It’s kind of odd that the time meant something to me, as if it was all gone.
The last thing I remember is the pain, as the blood pressure monitor came on, I passed out. The doctors told my wife to go home and prepare for the worse, as I was not expected to survive the damage I had done to my heart by waiting too long.
I don’t remember much of the next three days, I woke up in the ICU and checked myself out of the hospital in denial. Three days later, I had another bout with pain, so back to the hospital I went. It was there that I found out about the tests they did while I was unconscious.
I had lost 35% of my heart to damaged tissue, had a 38% ejection fraction as well as a 95% blockage which required a stint. I had it done and went home to see how long before I had to go on disability.
Even after my heart attack I had problems since I had damaged 35% of my heart, I was walking every day and changed my diet to try to improve my health. It was not working, I could not carry any weight and had problems doing my job.
My wife, while at a tofu cooking class found out about a Garlic, cayenne combo. I started to take it every day. Seven months later, I had some chest pain. It was different then angina, so my doctor did some tests. My damaged heart had rebuilt itself. That was the turning point of my life.
